Install rivet nuts in confined work areas without reaching behind the panel. The Koolands RST331 combines a low-profile setter head with a rigid side reaction handle that resists rotation while a matching pull bolt collapses the rivet nut.
Use a compatible power tool, air tool, hand ratchet, socket, or wrench. Impact mode is permitted when used with a controlled setting and the correct pull bolt. Seven clearly marked setters cover nominal diameters from M3 / 1/8 in through M12 / 1/2 in and store together in a fitted 10 x 7 x 2 in case.
Why Choose the RST331?
- Designed for confined spaces: The low-profile setter head works where a conventional long-arm rivet nut tool needs too much room.
- Multiple drive choices: Operate the pull bolt with a compatible power tool, air tool, hand ratchet, socket, or wrench.
- Impact mode permitted: Use a controlled setting and stop as soon as the rivet nut is correctly seated.
- Seven marked sizes: Select from nominal M3 / 1/8 in through M12 / 1/2 in diameters.
- One-sided installation: Create a threaded mounting point without accessing the rear of the workpiece.
- Rigid reaction handle: Hold the side handle to resist rotation while the pull bolt turns.
- Organized storage: Keep all seven setters together in the compact fitted case.
- Chrome-plated finish: A bright plated surface gives the set a clean, workshop-ready appearance.
Built for Close-Quarters Installation
Long handles and bulky rivet nut adapters can be difficult to position around frames, brackets, body panels, enclosures, and other closely spaced parts. The Koolands RST331 uses a compact setter head and a fixed side reaction handle, providing another way to install a rivet nut when conventional tools need more working room.
Choose the setter that matches the nominal pull-bolt diameter. Pass a matching external hex-head pull bolt through the setter, thread on the rivet nut, and place the rivet nut squarely in the prepared hole. Hold the reaction handle steady while turning the pull bolt. As the bolt draws back, the rivet nut collapses against the rear surface of the workpiece. Reverse the bolt after setting, remove the tool, and inspect the installation.
Allow at least 2 in of working clearance. Actual space requirements depend on the selected setter, socket, drive method, side-handle position, and surrounding structure.
Seven Size-Marked Setters
| Tool Marking | Metric Nominal Diameter | Inch Nominal Diameter |
|---|---|---|
| 3 - 1/8 | M3 | 1/8 in |
| 4 - 5/32 | M4 | 5/32 in |
| 5 - 3/16 | M5 | 3/16 in |
| 6 - 1/4 | M6 | 1/4 in |
| 8 - 5/16 | M8 | 5/16 in |
| 10 - 3/8 | M10 | 3/8 in |
| 12 - 1/2 | M12 | 1/2 in |
Compatibility note: The paired inch values are nominal diameter references. They do not identify an SAE thread or thread pitch. Always match the pull bolt's exact diameter and thread pitch to the rivet nut before use.

How to Use
- Drill and deburr the mounting hole to the rivet nut manufacturer's specification.
- Select the setter whose nominal diameter matches the pull bolt and rivet nut.
- Use a 40 mm external hex-head pull bolt of metric property class 10.9 or 12.9. Confirm that its diameter and thread pitch exactly match the rivet nut.
- Pass the pull bolt through the setter and thread the rivet nut fully onto the bolt.
- Place the rivet nut squarely into the prepared hole.
- Hold the side reaction handle firmly and keep it clear of obstructions.
- Turn the pull bolt with a compatible power tool, air tool, hand ratchet, socket, or wrench until the rivet nut is seated. If using impact mode, use a controlled setting and stop immediately when seated.
- Reverse the pull bolt, remove the setter, and inspect the rivet nut for full seating and resistance to spinning.
Suggested Applications
- Automotive body and accessory work
- Trailers, RVs, utility vehicles, and equipment panels
- Metal racks, shelving, frames, and brackets
- Electrical, HVAC, and machinery enclosures
- Sheet-metal fabrication, maintenance, and repair
- Installations with limited front-to-back tool clearance
Important Safety Information
- Wear eye protection and keep bystanders clear of the work area.
- Confirm the pull bolt's diameter, thread pitch, 40 mm length, and property class before every installation.
- Use only an undamaged external hex-head pull bolt marked metric property class 10.9 or 12.9.
- Do not use an unmarked, low-strength, bent, cracked, worn, stripped, or corroded pull bolt.
- Keep fingers, loose clothing, hair, cords, and hoses away from the rotating socket, pull bolt, and reaction handle.
- Keep the setter, rivet nut, and workpiece hole aligned. Do not apply a side load to the pull bolt.
- Impact mode is permitted, but uncontrolled impact or excessive force can fracture the pull bolt or damage the rivet nut, tool, threads, or workpiece.
- No universal RPM or torque value applies to every installation. Follow the rivet nut manufacturer's instructions and stop as soon as the fastener is properly seated.
- Inspect the completed installation before applying a load.
- Do not use the tool for structural, lifting, occupant-safety, or other safety-critical installations without application-specific engineering approval and validation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do the inch markings identify SAE thread sizes?
No. They are nominal diameter references. Exact SAE thread designations and pitches are not specified. Always match the pull bolt's exact diameter and thread pitch to the rivet nut.
Can I use an impact driver or impact air tool?
Impact mode is permitted. Use a controlled setting, keep the assembly aligned, and stop immediately when the rivet nut is seated. Excessive force can damage the installation or fracture the pull bolt.
What pull bolt should I use?
Use a 40 mm (approximately 1.57 in) external hex-head pull bolt marked metric property class 10.9 or 12.9. Its diameter and thread pitch must exactly match the rivet nut.
How much working room is required?
Allow at least 2 in of working clearance. The exact requirement changes with the selected setter, socket, drive tool, side-handle position, and nearby obstructions.
Does the tool require access behind the panel?
No. The rivet nut is inserted and set from the front of the workpiece.
What is the warranty?
The product has a lifetime warranty. Coverage, exclusions, claim evidence, and remedies are governed by the warranty policy published by Koolands.
How do I request a return or product support?
Email support@koolands.com. Return requests must be made within 14 business days under the published Koolands return policy.
Before use: Match the pull bolt and rivet nut by exact diameter and thread pitch. The paired inch markings are nominal diameter references, not SAE thread specifications. Allow at least 2 in of working clearance and use impact mode only with controlled operation.
